What Kinds of Prescription Drugs Cause Addiction?

Legal or prescription drugs can be really addictive if misused. This is made worse by the fact that the drugs are available in pharmacies and chemist and individuals can easily purchase them or acquire them. Some people may become addictive to more than one prescribed drug, which can lead to dangerous counteractions.

The most abused drugs that can be found anywhere are sedatives, nicotine, tranquilizers and others. Even when one is prescribed medicine, if he or she uses high dosages than the prescription states, there is a likelihood that they are going to get addicted to the drugs. Some addicts who have been on recovery can easily start using the freely available drugs as a substitute for the drugs they had previously been addicted to.

Sedatives can cause adverse effects to someone who abuses them because they are prescribed to individuals who have anxieties so as to give them a calming feeling, can be used to treat depression and also to assist in sleeping.

Narcotics that have been prescribed will also lead to addiction if they are not used in the right way. They usually treat chronic diseases and extreme pain and that can easily lead to one taking more doses so as to stop or minimize the pain. Other prescription drugs are cough syrups. This can easily be given if one complains of having a bad cough or one has a cold. They cause drowsiness and can be used by an addict and easily abused.

Other drugs that have been prescribed and can be abused are those that are used when someone is not able to sleep. An example is valium and other related types of sleeping tablets. They can easily give an addict hallucination, tolerance to the drug and even delusions. There have been many reported deaths as a result of prescription drug addiction.
